Cross-Border Climate Adaptation and Market Systems Development
AFI’s cross-border initiative with WFP and district governments expanded climate adaptation to 4,200+ households in Kaabong, Kotido, Moroto, and Amudat. Strategic infrastructure upgrades, rehabilitating the Kamion–Nawoontosi trade route, establishing cold storage in Lokiriama, and reactivating livestock markets in Kaichom have strengthened market connectivity and reduced post-harvest losses.
Complemented by MSME capacity building, joint monitoring frameworks, and value chain studies, the initiative aligns with Uganda’s NDP III, WFP Strategic Objective 2, and the Kenya–Uganda roadmap. Karamoja’s emergence as a value-added agriculture hub was spotlighted at the 2025 World Bee Day in Kampala, featuring farmers from Amudat and Kaabong.
AFI also supports ecosystem restoration through tree planting, agroforestry, and energy-saving technologies. We utilize greenhouses and solar-powered irrigation systems enable year-round production.
