Agriculture and Market Support
Driving Inclusive Agribusiness and Reducing Food Loss through Market Systems Development
Under Result Area 3 of the Climate-Resilience for Food and Nutrition Security project in Katakwi and Kaberamaido, AFI leads AMS implementation with support from the Embassy of Norway, FAO, and WFP. AMS strengthens climate-resilient food systems and inclusive market access for smallholders.
Over 1,243 farmers accessed post-harvest equipment including hermetic silos, tarpaulins, and storage bags reducing farm-level losses by 91%. Additionally, 132 agro-enterprises received training in food safety, GMP, and value addition, with four equipped with innovative agro-processing technologies. AMS facilitated farmer organization formation (e.g., MIFA, KAFACO), market assessments for cassava, green gram, groundnuts, and citrus, and digitized five farmer groups to enhance financial inclusion. These efforts are complemented by Food-Based Dietary Guidelines (FBDGs) and Digital Agrifood Surveillance Platforms, positioning AMS as a cornerstone for agrifood transformation in Teso.
